So You’re One Of Those Parents

Posted on June 17th, 2010 in daily marriage, daily parenting

Michael and I, each have different views, when it comes to the safety of certain products and foods that we bring into our home.

While I’m Mrs. Label Reader, Organic Wannabe, Non-Toxic Chemical Guru, OMGosh….DID YOU REALLY JUST FEED THEM FOOD….FROM A CAN – SAINT.

Micheal’s motto is if I ate it, drank it, or touched it, when I was little – and survived….they will too.

And then we have the same conversation…over and over.

Sure you survived, but think of how much longer you would have survived if you hadn’t come into contact with those foods and chemicals.

What?

I mean if your parents would have just taken a few extra minutes out of their day, to read the labels and stuff, your life span would have been longer.

I’M NOT DEAD!

All I’m saying is that they deprived you of life.

Still alive.

And it’s really such a shame AND a bit selfish on their part.

Are you serious…nevermind.

Evenflo has just released the Momentum 65 DLX Convertible Car Seat, with features that help make safety, installation and use as easy as possible for parents.  Evenflo and JuiceBoxJungle sponsored me to write this post, and talk about what child safety means to me and my family

  1. LOL @ I’M NOT DEAD. This sounds like a conversation my husband and I will have in the future. I’m the recycling, turn off the lights, stop wasting the water warden in the house. I read labels, only buy tuna in pouches and warn his of the ills of fake sugars. Glad I have an Apple nerd to relate to. Did you get to order the iPhone 4?

No. I was not one of the lucky ones. My husband’s wallet was happy about this, I’m sure:)

  3. Ha ha! Hubby is funny. “Still Alive”. I’m not a hard core mommy food snob, but I do organic whenever I can. I hope that balances out the keys that the kid tries to eat and the doorknobs that he licks. *smh*

  5. I’ve tried to explain all that to Dumb Dad too and he usually responds with something along the lines of, “Well my mom and dad were perfect and awesome and they still are,” to which I respond by kicking him in the throat. Verbally of course. He is such a little mama’s boy sometimes I want to send him over there and let them take care of him and his smelly socks!

  6. We don’t even have children yet but I have a feeling we’ll be pretty similar to you & your husband. I do think my husband reads labels more now than he used to (so, there’s ‘hope’ for our children yet – LOL!) but he’s made the same comments in our hypothetical situations…”I ate it (still do). You ate it (still do sometimes). I lived. You lived. They will too.” Only time will tell how we REALLY handle these things once we’re parents.

  7. I am so with you! Yeah, we survived our childhoods, but who knows what cancers and other ailments are lurking in our bodies waiting to strike? I’m even picky about the bowls, sippy cups, utensils, and food storage containers we sue with our baby. Luckily my hubby agrees with me. Our friends think we go overboard then the Toxic America special on CNN aired. Now our friends are emailing me questions about how to de-tox their kids.

  8. I guess I’m lucky, my hubby and I are on the exact same page when it comes to eating organic and minimally processed foods. BUT, yesterday we were on completely different planets with discipline. I do NOT allow my son to climb on our stools because…well, we have tile floor and he has fallen before. I noticed he was climbing on my husbands stool and said “get down”. My husband said “I have him, don’t worry”. I went into our bedroom to put away laundry and heard the “I am hurt” cries and screams. Sure enough, the kid fell face first on the tile. I was so mad I could have kicked my husband. So much for “I have him, don’t worry”. And he wonders why I do not leave him home alone with the kid!!!!!

  9. What people don’t understand is the food of TODAY is not the same as back in the day. It’s pumped full of artificial crap to make it easier to produce in bulk…

So yea, hubby may have been safe back then, but now he needs to listen to his wifey!
