The Season For Giving Is Right Now

give

My thoughts are racing rapidly at the moment. I really don’t know where to begin with my explanation of the why, so I’ll get right to the who: Carey Fuller is a single mother of two, who for the past 6 years has lived out of her vehicle. I follow Carey’s blog (Tales From The Driver’s Side) where she posts her daily musings on day to day life as a homeless person helping other homeless people such as Gandalf.

Saturday night I reached out to Carey on Twitter, for a mailing address to send items for her to distribute amongst the local homeless community. My family and I don’t have a lot, but what we do have we’re happy to give.

When I asked Carey if there was anything specific she needed, she replied: “Well usually for homeless, I tweet or post lists on Facebook. Kids and I don’t need much outside of housing….:)”

It breaks my heart to know I can’t provide this. Carey’s story could be my story. It could be your story. It only takes a split second for things to spiral out of control. Friends I have a request of you. If you will, please visit Carey’s blog and click the donation button. Carey gives to others, like herself, who are in this unfortunate situation.

  1. Wow, thanks for sharing this. As a single mom of 2 myself, I know it’s VERY hard. I even wrote a post about that last month and said how being a single mom is my “greatest life challenge”. So you are very right… it could easily be us! I’ll definitely have to reach out, read her blog, and get to know her story more.

@Denise, Thanks Denise. It’s hard out here. If we all band together it wouldn’t be so bad. Even though she’s not in an ideal situation; she still helps others. I admire that.

@kita, That’s great that you give Kita. There is no large or small. I’m sure the person receiving it is so appreciative no matter the amount. I’m trying to gather some gift cards for food to send her. I’m no means wealthy, but I’m sure it will still help the same.

  5. I read this post when you first posted but wasn’t sure how to comment. And I’m not sure if I do. I think it is a situation that could happen to anyone & people should be aware. This is a great example of remembering your blessings and to be thankful. That is one of my takeaways. Stesha, thanks for this post & for your choice to reach out unselfishly to someone else. Tis the reason for the season!

  6. What a heart-breaking situation! I found myself tearing up while I was reading it. I hoped over to her blog and did some reading, and I am amazed at how she looks past her own situation to help others. If she can put herself aside for the benefit of people who are less fortunate, surely we can as well.
