You Won’t Understand This Post If You’ve Never Seen The Movie Grease And Shame On You

Posted on August 2nd, 2009 in daily parenting

Kyndle, woke me up from a much needed slumber at 5:00 AM this morning, to announce that she was starting a club. Her exact words: “MAMA, I’M GOING TO START A CLUB FOR GIRLS, AND WE’RE GOING TO CARRY PINK ELEPHANTS!”

Now any other mother would have said, “okey dokey, back to bed.” Not me dear readers. For here was my second chance. My chance to right the wrong of my childhood. My chance at greatness. My chance to finally become a PINK LADY!

One of my favorite movies as a young girl, was Grease. For too many hours to count, I would walk around saying: “Oh, Sandy!” Over and over, until one day my grandmother had a meltdown and said, “TELL SANDY GOODBYE, BECAUSE I’M THROWING THAT MOVIE AWAY!”

And she did throw it away, along with my chance to ever become a Pink Lady.

Until now!

Me: Instead of carrying pink elephants, you should wear pink jackets!

Kyndle: I like pink elephants.

Me: I know, but pink jackets are better!

Kyndle: It’s my girls and my club and MY PINK ELEPHANTS!

Me: Well, mama’s money can only buy pink jackets. (Yes, dear readers, I went there.)

Kyndle: [Silence]

Me: Okay?

Kyndle: I’ll just ask daddy when he wake up. He bought us ice-cream yesterday, so that mean HIS money can buy everything!

Touché my dear. Touché.

  2. Touché indeed. :)

  3. AHAHA….yeah. Sounds like something MY daughter would say. Sometimes they are smarter than we give them credit for..lol

  4. One of my favorite movies of all time. Seen it over 20 times. Know every lyric to every song and even saw it on Broadway when it first came out a billion years ago.

  5. so so so so funny!!
but i like pink jackets. and i call being pinky. i’m a beauty school dropout…well, not really. but still!

  6. Out of the mouths of babes!

  7. I loooove Grease. For some reason I always wanted to be Rizzo (Rizo?), even though she thought she was knocked up and she was kind of a bitch to Sandy. I just loved her, and I wanted one of those jackets so bad.

I even used to know all the words to the song at the end.

  8. thanks for stopping by.

for the record, I would join a club that carried around pink elephants.

I probably would NOT join one that required me to wear a pink jacket.

  9. *giggle* Nice try!! I appreciate your efforts!

  10. I was more of a “Rizzo” fan. I think because she was a complete bad a$$ and SO opposite of who I am today!
Pink Elephants would great. Think jewels and tiarras!

  11. They get way too smart waaay to fast…

  12. You are my new hero. Am SO putting you into my reader.

  13. As someone who is named Sandy, I, of course, had a love-hate relationship with that movie. I loved it, LOVED it, but it came out when I was a kid (there were no VCRs and video tapes when I was a kid, it came out in the theater, lol) and so people often sang “Look at me I’m Sandra Dee” to me as a taunt.

How about pink jacket with pink elephants on them?

  14. that is too funny… i love grease too.

here’s hoping you get your pink jacket =)

  15. Love the punchline about Daddy!!

  16. Killer cute. I love that you refuse to buy only pink jackets!

  17. Too funny! I just watched that movie with my daughter a couple of weeks ago. Maybe she could carry a pink elephant AND wear a pink jacket.
